The Studio

27 Pictures is an independent film studio. We produce psychological horror short films and cinematic cosplay productions using Neural Synthesis — a pipeline combining native 4K RAW cinematography with AI-generated environments, texture diffusion, and generative worldbuilding. The RED SMILE anthology explores psychological horror through deep shadow, slow dread, and discordant sound. The JAX cyberpunk series pushes AI-driven visual storytelling into new territory. Our cosplay productions apply the same pipeline to bring characters into fully realised cinematic worlds. It also drives our interactive toons — full-screen hand-inked plates you read rather than watch, page-turn animation, and captions voiced in four languages. No generic content. No jump-scares. Every frame is a narrative decision. Every production is assembled to endure.

Specializing in visceral, psychological short-form horror. Our flagship series, The Red Smile, explores the distortion of the human psyche through a cinematic lens. We prioritise atmosphere over jump-scares, crafting tension through deep-shadow cinematography and discordant soundscapes.

Throughout our films, subtle "red smiles" appear as visual echoes of the series' mythology—sometimes hidden, sometimes brazen. Viewers are invited to search for them in every release.

BEYOND THE MASK

The Neural Evolution of Horror & Cosplay Cinema

Beyond the Mask is our cosplay cinema line. Every production starts the way our films do: a lighting plan, a shot list, and high-bitrate 4K RAW footage of a real person in a real costume.

The transformation happens in post. Neural Synthesis — our pipeline of AI-generated environment mapping and texture diffusion — builds the world around that footage: a rain-slicked street, a throne room, a ship corridor. The person and the costume stay real; the set is grown around them.

The finish is film finish: colour grade, grain, and a sound mix. What leaves the studio is not a photo set — it is a short piece of cinema with your character in it.

Our Production Process

VFX ASSEMBLY

Full-pipeline digital compositing, integrating live-action footage with supernatural effects and neural-generated environments. Our compositing process layers AI-rendered atmospheres, particle systems, and texture diffusion passes over 4K RAW footage — building otherworldly spaces from real locations, frame by frame.

SONIC LANDSCAPES

Bespoke music scoring and foley design for every production. We believe audio is 50% of the cinema experience. Every 27 Pictures release is scored with original music crafted to match the visual narrative — from ambient dissonance in horror sequences to character-driven underscore in cosplay cinema.

POST-PROCESSING

Meticulous colour grading and 4K assembly. Every frame is treated with a director's eye for lighting, shadow, and narrative weight. Our finishing pass includes noise reduction, cinematic film grain synthesis, and calibrated delivery for YouTube, print, and archival masters.

INTERACTIVE
TOONS

Horror and cyberpunk stories you read rather than watch: full-screen plates, page-turn animation, and captions that read themselves aloud in four languages. Built in the same darkroom as our films, with the same cinematography and sound work behind them.

We build these for other people too. An interactive toon works as a series pilot, a campaign people actually finish, or a comic that carries its own voice acting — scripted, illustrated, voiced and published as a page you can send anyone with a link.
